What is Respite Care?

“Respite” is the temporary or short term care of a person, whether adult or child, with special needs. Those needs can be emotional, behavioral, mental, psychological or physical, for example Alzheimers or mental retardation.

Respite Care can provide caregivers and families relief from the stress incurred by caring for a person with special needs. This assistance helps ease the emotional and physical demands of caring for such a child, and can help to prevent abuse and neglect of the child, caregiver, and family members.

Respite Care can also provide the caregiver or family of a special needs person the security of knowing that the individual will be well cared for in the event of an emergency.
